FIRST STEP TOWARDS WALKING

The last 24 hrs have been challenging. We saw Dr. Buerk yesterday and received all in all good news regarding Bree's feet and right knee. Her xrays were great of her spine and hips and he really was encouraging about getting her to walk soon. We began a casting program (called the Ponsetti method) to help strengthen her tissues, muscles, etc. and which will slowly correct her positional deformity. Unfortunately for Bree her legs and feet are now in soft casts in a position they have never been in before and she is very uncomfortable. She slept very poorly and her spirit has been zapped. It is very heartwrenching. She cries all the time and its hard to know if it is due to pain or she is just mad and exhausted. We have her on pain meds-but don't really know if they are doing much. We will go for weekly cast changes for at least 4-6 wks. Then the decision will be made as to what kind of surgery she will need. Please pray for us during this difficult time. We know we have to do this to get her to walk-but it is very draining.

We will be praying for you guys. It is so hard to see your child be in pain. I'm sure when she does start walking it will be the best day of her life. That will be here before you know it! If you need anything please let us know.

Hi Tracy and Doug,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I am sure that it is very heart-wrenching to observe Bree's sadness and pain. I do not know if this wil help, but we have alot of DvDs/VCR tapes of Barney, The Wiggles, Elmo etc. They come in handy when Lily needs to rest or when she needs a quiet distraction. We also have alot of books that Bree may enjoy. You are more than welcome to borrow anything that we have. Also, if you think that Bree may enjoy meeting Lily, we could bring her over for a brief visit?? (I am not trying to be pushy and I know that you must still be trying to acclimate). Seeing Lily may make Bree feel better and take her mind off the discomfort of the casts??? It is just an idea. Sometimes it is difficult to know what really would help a situation. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do to make this better. Lily seems to very much enjoy seeing other Asian people. I do not know if Bree feels the same? I definitely see a connection when Lily is around anyone of Asian descent. It is a neat thing to observe!!!
Anyway...just let us know if you need anything.
Take care.

Love and prayers,
Donna, Patrick and Lily

I simply can not imagine the pain that all of you are going through. Just keep reassuring her in your own way that it all work out soon. Praying and sending good thoughts your way.

Tracy and Doug,
Know that we are thinking of you and Bree. The day that Bree takes her first steps will be one of the most wonderful days of your lives. Thinking about the day I watched Josh start walking always brings a smile to my face, as I know it will to when you see Bree walk.
Please let us know if we can do anything to help (we'd like to return the support to you!)
